Excelsior

Location:   Albany, New York
Year:   1901

 The motto of the State of New York is "Excelsior." 

The motto means "Ever Upward" in Latin, and appears on the State Seal and Coat of Arms (both adopted in 1778) and the State Flag (adopted 1901).
