The Nine-Spotted Ladybug, a voracious eater of agricultural pests, is the State Insect of New York. Declared such in 1989, it had actually been completely absent from the State (due to predators and pesticides) between 1982 and 2011. As of 2014, the Nine-Spotted Ladybug is, however, being seen in increasing numbers.
